Same-sex sexual relations are considered illegal in South Sudan with penalties of up to 10 years’ imprisonment, if consensual. If non-consensual, the penalty is up to 14 years’ imprisonment. Societal discrimination against LGB persons is widespread, and there are no known LGB organizations. See our LGB Travel Information page and section 6 of our Human Rights report for further details.
